Many people may have misconceptions about yoga before they even set foot in a Seattle yoga studio. They might think that the holistic Eastern regimen is tailored specifically to women, but they couldn't be more wrong. It's true that many participants are ladies, but the benefits of yoga for men are numerous. Those who engage in the gentle breathing exercises, refreshing stretches and soothing poses of the program may enhance multiple aspects of well-being, including the physical, mental and emotional.

For guys who want to experience these positive effects for themselves, it may be encouraging to know that the president of one university's yoga club is male. Fourth-year collegian Michael Fitzsimons is one of only two men who are club officers, according to The Lantern. The group was founded years ago, when there were only a handful of members, but it has since grown to 80 enrollees.

In fact, the club has become so popular that the number of attendees is inching toward the maximum occupancy limit of 70 people for each class.

"We've come really close, but we haven't gone over it yet," Fitzsimons said, quoted by the source. "I actually already had to talk to our scheduling intern about what we should do if we get that many people. We'll either go to the women's field house or maybe try to go to a different multipurpose room."

More men may want to take advantage of the health benefits of yoga by participating in a class at their local library, gym or college.
