There are numerous benefits of yoga for men with Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's disease affects millions of people in the U.S. and can be devastating for families, according to a popular CNN article. Older adults who have cognitive impairment may be fretful and confused, which can cause significant worry and alarm among their loved ones. Staying healthy is critical to ensuring that these seniors continue to lead productive lives despite having the neurodegenerative disorder. Holistic exercises such as yoga can play an important role in optimizing the well-being of these individuals. Many of the benefits of yoga for men with Alzheimer's are well-known. Breathing exercises and poses can help enhance their physical, mental and emotional health simultaneously.

Joseph Quinn, a researcher at Oregon Health and Sciences University, explained to the news source that people who have mild cognitive impairment have a measurable memory problem. However, their language and thinking skills are usually left intact, meaning that these individuals can still function.

An estimated 5.4 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer's. This figure is expected to grow to 16 million by the year 2050.

Robert Kreitner, whose father died from the disease, told CNN that he has begun having memory problems of his own.

"It's helpful to me that my father had Alzheimer's, because it makes it much easier for me to accept the existence of it, the reality of it, and the personalization of it, and the finality of it," Kreitner explained, quoted by the news source. "My memory is a jigsaw puzzle and it's just been dumped out of the box. If I were to have to reconstruct that puzzle, I couldn't do it."

Those who have this disorder may benefit from engaging in yoga. Throughout the history of yoga exercise, many enthusiasts have reported that the program helps them manage the pain and stress associated with numerous medical conditions.
