Benefits of yoga poses can be optimized with laughter
The benefits of yoga poses are many, encompassing multiple aspects of an individual's health, including the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Millions of Americans have adopted the breathing techniques and stretches of the program, which originated many millennia ago but still remains relevant today. Those who have practiced the soothing maneuvers in a Seattle yoga studio know that it can help calm them and ease away the day's frustrations.
Many instructors believe that combining these exercises with laughter can optimize the benefits, according to the Taunton Gazette.
"The reason why they say laughter is the best medicine is because, quite honestly, it is," said yoga teacher Chris Belanger, quoted by the news source. "In no particular order, what happens when we laugh is we are giving ourselves an internal massage, moving around, waking organs up, giving the digestion tract and immune system a little boost, toning muscles and losing stress."
Why not try the chuckling form of this relaxing regimen for yourself? Check out this method that can help you relax after a long, stressful day.
1. While standing, cup your hands in front of your stomach and laugh, "Ho, ho." Next, move your palms to the center of your chest and laugh, "Ha, ha." Alternate between the abdomen and heart, chuckling as you go.
2. Place your hands on the top of your head, laughing, "He, he" to yourself to clear the mind of tension. Next, repeat the first step, alternating between the stomach and the chest.
3. Finally, keeping your torso straight, bend down to the ground. Then straighten up with your hands toward the sky and laugh, "Ha, ha, ha, ha." Perform this 10 times to strengthen the connection between your mind and body.
